Bolivar Schools and COM Food Drive

Posted Date: 11/05/25 (06:00 PM)

Bolivar Schools and Community Outreach Ministries (COM) are teaming up to support local families through a district-wide food drive. From Monday, November 10th, through Friday, November 21st, each school building and the district’s central office will serve as collection sites for non-perishable food items during school hours.

This collaborative effort comes as many families face a challenging time when half of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits are provided in November. The goal is to provide additional food resources to help bridge that gap and ensure no family in the Bolivar community goes hungry.

“Serving our community is at the heart of who we are as a school district,” said Dr. Michael Methvin, Bolivar R-1 Superintendent. “This partnership with Community Outreach Ministries is a wonderful way for our students, staff, and families to make a tangible difference for those who may be struggling. Every can, every box, and every donation matters.”

Community Outreach Ministries will work with Bolivar Schools to distribute the collected food directly to local families in need.

“We are so grateful for our ongoing partnership with Bolivar Schools,” said Kendall Vance, of Community Outreach Ministries. “Food insecurity is something many families face quietly. Efforts like this food drive not only fill pantries—they remind people that their community cares about them and that help is available when times are tough.”

Non-perishable food items are foods that do not spoil quickly and can be stored safely without refrigeration. Examples include canned fruits and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, pasta, rice, cereal, and boxed meal kits.
